- We can monitor and record all internet usage
- A centralized log is kept of every web site visited by every user
- Users (students or staff) should have no expectation of privacy when
browsing the web, sending or receiving e-mail, or using other electronic
resources
|
|

|
|
|
12
|
- In accordance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act, we use
filtering software to block access to inappropriate content on all
computers with Internet access
- Users should be aware that filtering software will not block ALL
inappropriate web sites. Users shall report all inappropriate sites not
blocked by filters to the network administrator

- Material that is “pornographic”
- Child Pornography

- . . . access and/or transmit material in violation of any U.S. or
Commonwealth law, including copyrighted material. Do not let students download music
files unless needed for a class project and the download does not
violate copyright laws. File
sharing programs (e.g. Kazaa) are PROHIBITED on Mahar computers!
|
|
17
|
- Access, download, display, transmit, produce, generate, copy or
propagate any material that is obscene or pornographic material;
advocates illegal acts; contains ethnic slurs, or racial epithets; or
discriminates on the basis of gender, national origin, sexual
orientation, race, religion, ethnicity, handicap or age

- Degrade, damage or disrupt equipment or system performance.
- Of course, most of you would never do this deliberately. But on our present network, streaming
audio or video or large file downloads may “disrupt system performance”
for other users. Please keep such
use of the network to the minimum required. For example, internet radio should be
used only for educational purposes, not entertainment.
|
|
21
|
- Waste electronic storage space by saving unnecessary files or programs.
- Of course, your files are not “unnecessary”. But we have only a limited amount of
network storage space. Use your
network drive to save your documents, but keep the storage of large
files, especially media files, to the minimum required for educational
purposes. Large files not being
edited any longer should be archived on CD, not your network drive.
|
|
22
|
- Download, install, load or use programs without permission.
- You MAY NOT install any program or upgrade on a school computer unless
the school owns the program or upgrade.
This especially includes “freeware” or “shareware” programs. This also especially includes programs
you or a a student may have obtained personally.
|
|
23
|
- Use the Internet for personal commercial purposes
- For example—don’t buy or sell things over EBay at school, don’t make
travel reservations at school, don’t buy or sell stock at school, don’t
order things from L.L. Bean at school, etc. And please don’t even think about
gambling!
